Two of the top early contenders in the ACC will try to take a big step in realizing their conference goals when they meet Saturday night in Atlanta.
Boston College is already playing its third conference game of the season and is 2-0 SU & ATS. This is the Eagles’ first road test though, and they were 1-5 ATS away last season. Georgia Tech meanwhile, is 2-0 as well having outscored its first two opponents 102-17. The Jackets have done the damage on the ground, piling up 327 RYPG in the first two, fourth in the country. Although, these teams haven’t met since 1998, the road team is 2-0 SU & ATS in the last two.
Boston College is in tricky situation after a raging river of emotion was used taking on North Carolina State, with former coach Tom O’Brien on the opposite sidelines. The Eagles must promptly regain composure to take on an underrated Georgia Tech team. New coach Jeff Jagodzinski fell into a special situation with 16 starters back. Matt Ryan is on his way to a special senior season leading Boston College. As the Eagles offense receives plenty of deserved attention, CB DeJuan Tribble is in the zone for All-American type year. The Eagles are lowly 3-9 ATS to open road portion of schedule last 12 years.
Georgia Tech had a good workout in home opener against FCS Samford and readies itself for ACC action. As many thought, these Yellow Jackets may be more deadly then the swarm that went to the conference title game. It took a few years, but Georgia Tech is now playing the kind of football coach Chan Gailey loves. A punishing running game, mixed with fluid passing and an aggressive defense that mesmerizes opposing QB’s with its myriad of blitz packages.
Boston College was treated like a red-headed step-child joining the ACC having to open the year with three conference games. While the pace lets up next week, it won’t in Atlanta against Georgia Tech. At least the Eagles are 6-1 ATS as road underdogs the last four seasons. Prediction – Georgia Tech by 6
